PROJECT

It has been quite some time since I updated this blog.
At present it looks like the project is going to cost too much to implement due to the high number of mink reported to be in the area as well as the lack of support that the project is getting. I have 2 volunteers at Cliveden looking out for mink and get reports from the lock keepers on the Thames regarding their sightings. For the project to develop it will need the backing of more people.

Duncan Yearley

My name is Duncan Yearley and I was bought up in Cookham and llived in Westwood Green where I was one of 5 boys. My sister Heather died at an early age. My brothers and I went to various schools in the area including Holy Trinity Primary School, Furze Platt Secondary and The Grammar School.
Living in cookham our playing fields used to include many of the nature sites including the area around the old Strand Castle, Widbrook Common, The Brick kilns in Pinkneys green and many other areas.
In the sixties and seventies there were many more species of wildlife that we would come across than you can find now. In particular the water vole used to be present in great numbers and now they have all gone.
Other wildlife included tree sparrows, hares, grass snakes, slow worms, lizards, shrews, voles and other birds like the water rale, bull finch and little grebe. These species have all but disappeared in the area.
